What is the face reading test?

For centuries, people have tried to read others at a glance. In Arab heritage, al-firasa meant keen insight: the ability to notice what others overlook and draw careful conclusions from it, and classic works such as the Book of Firasa attributed to Fakhr al-Din al-Razi discussed it at length. This test keeps the useful part of that idea, sharp observation, and turns it into a question about you: how do you read people?

What it measures

The test looks at three dimensions of your people-reading style: observation (do you notice small details or take in the overall picture?), reading source (do you rely mainly on facial expressions in the moment or on behaviour over time?) and confidence in impressions (do you trust first impressions and decide quickly, or hold them loosely and revise?). The combination gives one of eight styles.

How it works

There are 24 short statements, taking about 8 minutes. Rate how much you agree with each one. No photos are used and there are no right or wrong answers; every style has its own strengths and blind spots.

An honest note

This test does not read faces and does not predict anyone's character. Physiognomy, the idea that the shape of the face or its features reveal personality, is not an established science, and judging character from facial features is unreliable. Psychologist Alexander Todorov's research shows that people form trait impressions from faces within a fraction of a second, yet these snap judgements are often wrong. What is real is that facial expressions, studied by Paul Ekman and others, carry emotional information, although context changes their meaning a great deal. Your result describes how you observe and form impressions. It is a tool for self-reflection, not a scientific or psychological assessment.
